Taking it up a notch

We touch the switches in our home several times a day, whether to control the lights, switch on ventilation, or adapt the ambience to our mood. And yet, switches are often overlooked in home renovations. Two elegant Belgian newcomers are now set to change this.

Niko launched its first porcelain switch in 1920. Since then, the Belgian market leader in switches, sockets and home automation has stayed true to what it does best: looking for solutions to increase comfort and user-friendliness with a keen eye for detail and contemporary design. Building on more than 100 years of experience and expertise, the Niko Rocker and Toggle are its newest switches, with a nod to Niko’s past. Niko Toggle was inspired by Niko’s Bakelite wall switch from 1928, whereas Niko Rocker references a design from 1958. Cast in a contemporary form, available in aluminium and steel and fitted with the latest technologies, these products more than meet today’s requirements and standards and will look good in just about any interior.

Keeping up with the latest trends

Both switches provide a response to the growing demand for smaller buttons and switches that are made entirely from metal, a material that is becoming increasingly popular in the premium market for its exclusive look. Niko Rocker and Toggle come in various finishes, including gold brushed aluminium and white coated steel, adding a nice design flourish to any home interior. As usual, Niko paid utmost attention to every aspect of the manufacturing process. “You can have a great design, but if the quality is lacking, you will never be able to achieve the kind of high-end result we want to create again and again,” says Arne Desmet, product designer at Niko. “Besides the user-friendliness of the products, which is Niko’s trademark, we have also focused on ease of installation,” Arne explains. “The typical cover plate of Niko designs ensures the switch can be easily installed, even on an uneven wall.” A new feature is the light, which has been incorporated into the cover plate and is so subtle you only notice it when it is on. The optional hidden-until-lit LED indicates whether the switch is on or off with its soft glow. The switch can also be added to the smart home system ‘Niko Home Control’, which is tailored to the end customer’s needs.

Best in Belgium

Niko Rocker and Niko Toggle were designed entirely in Belgium and partly produced by hand. A tribute to the past, but always looking to the future. Moreover, Niko was recently named ‘Factory of the Future’ for the second time, an award bestowed by technology federation Agoria, with the jury praising Niko for its innovative work organisation and focus on sustainability.
