A tribute to authenticity and sustainability in the Experience Garden with SeptimA clay pavers

The client’s original dream was a romantic garden where flowers take centre stage. Gradually, this idea evolved into a luxurious outdoor space featuring a swimming pool, pool house, entrance area and even a sauna. To bring this variety of functions into harmony, designer Stijn Ameloot resolutely opted for clay pavers, a material that is impressive not only aesthetically but also technically.

The SeptimA Onyx is an unsanded, tumbled clay paver with a deep, dark hue that perfectly matches the project’s mood board: reddish-brown bricks, blackened cedar wood and an anthracite-coloured swimming pool. This paver carries a Class A rating, guaranteeing low water absorption and exceptional frost resistance. Thanks to its ECO-7 size and long lifespan, it is also an environmentally responsible choice. Its tumbled finish creates an authentic, weathered look, ideal for a garden that needs to radiate warmth and character.

Technology and creativity go hand in hand

What makes this project special is the refined use of clay pavers. A monolithic finish was deliberately chosen for the pool edge: the pavers have been mitred and glued, so that the end grain is visible throughout, yet from above the lines flow seamlessly, avoiding the typical framed effect. This technique was extended to the steps and the plinth of the pool house, creating a sense of visual continuity.

The terrace was also integrated naturally into the whole, with organic openings filled with perennials, herbs and flower bulbs, creating a subtle dialogue between hard landscaping and greenery.

Indoors and outdoors merge seamlessly: from the terrace to the pool house, right into the wine cellar where strips of clay pavers even clad the cellar hatch. The cellar floor is also laid with clay pavers, bonded to a prefabricated sub-base. In the final phase, the entrance and sauna were built on a plinth of the same pavers, giving the whole a timeless appearance.

Sustainability as a central theme

According to Stijn Ameloot, clay pavers are inherently sustainable thanks to their user-friendliness and the ability to reuse them if they are not grouted. “It’s a durable product; even after years, you can clean them until they look just like new again. Plus, the patina that develops over time is beautiful,” says the designer. Moreover, it is a locally sourced product, which significantly reduces the ecological footprint. The Experience Garden by Stijn Ameloot proves that aesthetics, technology, and sustainability go hand in hand.
