Case story

Architectural value of glass partition walls

New requirements, new solutions. Increasingly, families and businesses are struggling with the need for privacy without sacrificing light and openness. Arlu, a manufacturer of door hardware, has now capitalised on this trend with its Divina range. “These aluminium glass walls with solutions for sliding and hinged doors have endless modular possibilities”, says Marketing Manager Emilie Bouderenghien.

Why are glass walls such a success?

“In the private market and in hotels, restaurants and businesses, there is a great need to let daylight flow in. uninterrupted. While we value natural light, meeting rooms also need partitions for privacy. In people’s homes, too, open-plan living is slowly becoming a thing of the past, with steel-look doors suddenly becoming all the rage. At Arlu, we took things a step further with Divina. Instead of just doors, we have created a range of complete walls and room solutions.”

Your walls are modular. How modular?

“We expanded the line-up. We have a fixed wall and a corner, single and double swing doors, single and double sliding doors, and pivot doors. The range also includes fixed walls with swing or sliding doors. The system can be used for floor-to-ceiling applications. You can even get slimline doors of 600 mm slimline doors. We see a lot of demand for this in the housing market, where spaces are becoming smaller. This allows us to adjust the configurations in an almost endless number of ways, which is a huge plus for architects.”

Can you also personalise the walls?

“Of course. With colour, for example. The system comes in three standard colours, namely white, black and grey. These are the most popular choices for the home market. But on request, we can also produce this system in eight trendy colours such as rosa, granata, fresca... Besides the powder-coated colours, we recently also launched a series of anodised colours for a more classy, high-end look. Architects can also choose the layout of the traverse profiles. These are ‘glued on’ afterwards, ensuring that everything blends seamlessly with the project’s design. And obviously, you can also personalise the walls with different types of glass: cathedral glass for more privacy or smoked glass for a chic look and feel.”
